BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome seven new members on Friday (Sept. 10). The 2004 class will be inducted during a formal dinner on the BGSU campus.
The class of 2004 includes women's basketball standout Lori Albers, men's track/cross country great Todd Black, gymnast Mary Beth (Friel) Bylsma, volleyball standout Lisa (Mika) Huston, swimmer Josie McCulloch, men's lacrosse player Chuck Winters and football Falcon Andre Young.
The official induction ceremony will take place Friday evening in the grand ballroom of BGSU's Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The social hour begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m. and the program starting shortly thereafter.
In addition, the class will be introduced at halftime of Saturday's (Sept. 11) BGSU-Southeast Missouri football game at Doyt Perry Stadium. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. and is designated as Varsity BG & Hall of Fame Night.
Tickets for Friday's dinner are $35 and advance reservations are required. The following is the sixth in a series of biographical sketches profiling each of the 2004 inductees:
CHUCK WINTERS
Native of Rochester, N.Y. ... lettered for three years in lacrosse (1967-69) after originally coming to BG to play football ... had eight goals his junior year, sixth on the team, and 17 as a senior, tied for third on the Falcons ... earned honorable mention All-American honors as a senior as the Falcons went 11-1 ... played in the North-South game after his senior season ... was second team All-Midwest as a sophomore and junior, and first team as a senior ... co-captain his senior season ... was a graduate assistant coach at BG in 1970 before spending two seasons as an assistant coach at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cortland ... then assumed the head-coaching position there for nine years, winning the 1973 and 1975 Div. II national titles ... became the associate athletic director at Army for seven years before becoming the athletic director at Gettysburg College for 13 years ... Gettysburg won the all-conference points trophy 13 consecutive years under his leadership ... currently serves as the secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee ... was inducted into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2000.
