Sharon And Parks Earn MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green's Charles Sharon and Devon Parks were honored by the Mid-American Conference this afternoon. Sharon was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Devon Parks earned Defensive Player of the Week, helping the Falcons to a 38-14 victory over Ohio last Saturday.
EAST DIVISION
Offensive Player of the Week
Charles Sharon, wide receiver, Bowling Green (Sr., Paltaka, Fla.)
Sharon had a career-high 10 catches for 185 yards as the Falcons topped Ohio 38-14 and now stand in sole possession of first place in the East Division at 2-0. His 41-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter helped BG extend its lead to 21-7 at the time. Sharon's scoring reception was the 33rd of his career, a BG school record and also the fourth highest total in MAC history. He became the first-ever BG player to go over 3,000 career receiving yards (3,036, sixth highest total in MAC history) and needs five more receptions to reach 200 for his career.

Devon Parks, defensive end, Bowling Green (Jr., Libertyville, Ill.) Parks had a team-high 10 tackles, including two for a loss and a pass break up as the Falcons' defense limited the Bobcats offense to just one touchdown. Ohio came into the game averaging 154 rushing yards per game and was held to just 68 yards by the BG defense. Parks' quarterback hurry late in the second half forced an interception near the goal line to preserve a 14-7 Falcon lead.
Special Teams Player of the Week Jordan Meyers, linebacker, Ohio (Fr., Harrison, Ohio) Meyers forced a fumble on the opening kickoff at Bowling Green that the Bobcats recovered four yards from the end zone. With 46 seconds left in the first half, Meyers recovered a Falcons punt that was blocked and ran it in from 15 yards out to cut BG's margin to 14-7.
WEST DIVISION
Offensive Player of the Week
Greg Jennings, wide receiver, Western Michigan (Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich.)
Jennings caught 11 passes for 244 yards and a school-record four touchdowns in a 60-57 five-overtime loss to Ball State. Three of his scores gave WMU the lead. His first score came from 40 yards out and tied the game at 7-7. Subsequent touchdowns in the third quarter provided leads of 30-27 (50 yards) and 37-30 (27 yards) at the time. Jennings final reception came from 25 yards and gave WMU its last points and a 57-51 lead in the fourth overtime.
Defensive Player of the Week
Mike Alston, outside linebacker, Toledo (Jr., Columbus, Ohio)
Alston led a Rocket defense that held Eastern Michigan to 18 points and 51 yards below its average in a 30-3 triumph. Alston had three tackles for a loss and two sacks among his seven tackles as the Rockets held EMU out of the end zone in a MAC game for the first time since 2003.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Brian Jackson, placekicker, Ball State (Jr., Dothan, Ala.)
Kicked two field goals, including the game winner in the MAC record fifth overtime in a 60-57 win at Western Michigan. Jackson's 30-yard three-pointer gave BSU its first win of 2005, snapping a five-game winning streak dating back to last year. Jackson had 12 points in the day.
