CHICAGO - In the last non-conference match before MAC foe Northern Illinois visits Mickey Cochrane Stadium, Loyola University Chicago tested the Falcons stamina in a 3-2 double overtime final. While Omari Aldridge extended his scoring streak to five games, LUC's Keum Sung Kim was the key to the Ramblers success, having his hands in each of the three scores.
The Falcons are now 2-7-1 in 2005 as the Ramblers advance to 4-4-1.
Freshman Justin Kim scored his first collegiate goal at the 24:09 mark to give the Falcons a lead that would last through the first intermission. The unassisted goal came on a free kick from 18 yards out.
LUC did not answer Kim's goal until Sung Kim scored the first of his two goals on a free kick from 20 yards which curled over the Falcon wall to slip in the right side of the net. Sung Kim set up the Ramblers next goal just under four minutes later after drawing a Falcon foul in the box. Bill Metzger's penalty kick gave the Ramblers their first lead of the match at 50:54.
The Falcons, leveled the playing field when Aldridge sent a low, hard shot from about 12 yards out off the far post and ricocheted in past Rambler's keeper Brad Sommer. Sommer finished the match with seven saves.
With under ten seconds remaining in regulation, Aldridge's final attempt on goal missed the net as it flew wide left.
The stalemate was not cracked until Sung Kim scored on a short Metzger assist from a long Steven Graner throw-in.
Falcon's keeper Paul Shoemaker finished the match with eight saves on 22 shots, four of which came in the first half.
The Falcons will open the MAC season at home Friday afternoon on the front side of a double-header with the Falcon women. In game one, the men will host NIU with kick-off set for 1:00, while game two will feature the women playing host to visiting Ohio University with a 4:00 start.
