BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons got back on track Friday night with a dominating 3-0 sweep over Buffalo (30-10, 33-31, 30-20). Junior Chrissy Gothke continued to play the role of both setter and outside hitter, compiling 11 kills, 18 assists and six digs while hitting .500 in the victory.
After giving away the first point of the match on an attack error, Bowling Green did not trail the rest of the game. The Brown and Orange made a statement in game one, hitting .407 while smothering the Bulls offense and halting them to a dismal -.176 hitting percentage. Gothke had a flawless five kills on five swings in the opening act.
With an early 8-1 advantage, it looked like the Falcons would cruise in game two also. However, the Bulls clawed their way back into the match and took a lead at 30-29. After exchanging attack errors, the score stood at 31-30, Buffalo. Freshman Meghan Mohr then hit a crucial kill to tie the game, giving Gothke a chance to earn the game-winning kill that she nicely placed in the back right corner. Bowling Green rejected five Buffalo attacks in game two, led by redshirt freshman Kendra Halm and her four blocks.
The Falcons got back to business in game three, taking a large early-game lead and never looking back. Redshirt sophomore Corrie Mills came off the bench with a spark for the Falcons. Mills hit .600 with three kills and two blocks, including a solo block in the final game.
BGSU returns to action tomorrow night in Anderson Arena against the Akron Zips. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
