BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) - Tim Hiller threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns and Western Michigan defeated Bowling Green 45-14 on Saturday.
The Falcons (4-3, 3-1 Mid-American Conference), were forced to play without star quarterback Omar Jacobs who suffered an injury in the first quarter.
Broncos defensive end Matt Ludeman hit Jacobs on a passing play, driving Jacobs into the ground and causing him to fumble. Jacobs, who had completed 6 of 9 passes for 98 yards, left the game with pain in his non-throwing shoulder and did not return.
Ameer Ismail Jr. picked up Jacobs' fumble and ran 53 yards for a touchdown to give Western Michigan a 7-6 lead.
The Broncos (4-3, 2-2) kept the momentum in the second quarter. Hiller threw two touchdown passes to Greg Jennings, Trovon Riley had a 2-yard TD run and Nate Meyer kicked a 22-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 31-6 lead at halftime.
Anthony Turner, who replaced Jacobs for the Falcons, scored on a 7-yard TD run in the third. He completed 20 of 38 passes for 242 yards with two interceptions. He also was sacked four times.
Hiller tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tony Scheffler in the third and Mark Bonds had a 1-yard TD run in the fourth for the Broncos.
Hiller completed 16 of 25 passes. Jennings had eight receptions for 162 yards, and Riley finished with 120 yards on 27 carries.
Charles Sharon caught eight passes for 129 yards for the Falcons. B.J. Lane rushed for 70 yards on 14 carries.
Falcons coach Gregg Brandon said after the game that Jacobs' shoulder would be evaluated next week. His status for next week's home game against Akron was uncertain. Jacobs led the nation with 41 TD passes last season.
