BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green dropped Saturday night's match against Western Michigan 3-1 (30-26, 18-30, 31-33, 22-30). However, sophomore Stephanie Swiger finished off a solid weekend with another 12 kills in the losing effort.
The Falcons came out sluggish early on, falling to a 4-0 deficit in game one. Swiger lifted the Falcons with four kills in the next six points. Swiger's six game-one kills springboarded the Brown and Orange to a 30-26 win. Sophomore Madeline Means polished off the game with her third kill of the game.
Game two did not go as well for the Falcons as Western Michigan stormed to a 30-18 win. The Broncos earned an early 9-1 advantage and never looked back, holding Bowling Green to a .088 hitting percentage.
BGSU out-hit the Broncos by a slim margin in game two and held a 29-26 lead late in game three. Unfortunately, a Western Michigan kill paired with two Falcon errors knotted the score at 29-29. A block by Shaylen Jackson gave WMU the 33-31 win, and put the Falcons in a 2-1 deficit.
The Falcons kept it close for the first half of game four before the Broncos slowing pulled away. A trio of consecutive Western Michigan kills sealed the deal and handed Bowling Green a 3-1 loss.
Senior Ashlei Nofzinger pounded a team-high 13 kills while hitting .303 for the Falcons. Swiger added a team-high seven blocks to her double digit kills.
The Brown and Orange will now get set for a non-conference match-up against Oakland Tuesday night in Anderson Arena. The Falcons and Grizzlies are scheduled to battle at 7 PM.
