PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A few quotes from Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 48-44 loss to the University of Delaware Wednesday...
"Mentality is a big thing in basketball. The fun thing is that we get to come back and play a game right away. But, we have to be ready for a very good Iona team."
"There were some positives that came out of this game. That (Delaware) team plays as good of a zone defense as we will face. And, we gave up 14 field goals all game. Our defense was absolutely tremendous. Delaware is a great program; I think they are one of the top teams in the nation that people don't know a lot about. I have the utmost respect for (UD head coach) Tina Martin and her program."
"We held them to 14 field goals, but to their credit, they were aggressive. They attacked and got to the free-throw line 13 more times than we did. When you are a zone team, that's what you have to do -- get to the line more than your opponent. We were 4-of-9 at the line, but we missed the front end of a couple of one-and-ones, so we really hurt ourselves at the line."
"Hats off to Delaware. Their program is just tremendous. They are 33-7 over their last 40 games, so there is no shame in losing to them. We need to be able to bounce back and fight through some fatigue (for Thursday's game), but Iona and Saint Joe's went right down to the buzzer, so we all will face that same concern."
"One of the statistics I'm most proud of is our success in games when we lead at halftime. We had won 24 of our last 25 games when leading at the half. We were 17-0 last year (in that category) before losing to Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament, and we were 15-3 the year before. So, we are now 39-5 over our last 44 games when leading at halftime. I trust our kids will have a great mentality and bounce back from this loss. If they don't, Iona will give us everything we want and more."
