Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon has announced that cornerback coach Vance Joseph will leave the University and accept a coaching position with the San Francisco 49ers.
Joseph, who came to BGSU after serving as an assistant coach at Colorado, will serve as an assistant coaching the secondary with the 49ers.
"I've always thought very highly of Vance and I am thrilled to see him get this opportunity," said Brandon. "You never like to replace a coach, but this position has been attractive because of people like Vance, Steven Wilks (who left to go to Notre Dame) and Tommie Thigpen (who left for Illinois). Those guys are well thought of in the profession and we should have a lot of interest in the opening."
BGSU begins spring practice March 24 and will hold its spring game, April 16. The Falcons are the only team in the MAC who have won back-to-back bowl games (Motor City, 2003 and GMAC, 2004) and just one of 15 overall nationally.
