TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team was clicking on all cylinders in a 7-0 win over Butler University Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5). The non-conference dual match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 4-1 in dual play this season. Butler drops to 2-2, and the Bulldogs went 1-1 in Northwest Ohio this weekend after a 4-3 win over Toledo Friday.
The Falcons took the doubles point, with senior Susie Schoenberger teaming up with junior Heidi Romer for an 8-2 win at the top flight. Sophomore Ashley Jakupcin and freshman Jenna Nussbaum won, 8-3, in second-flight action, while the duo of freshman Andrea Volle and junior Andrea Meister doubled up on their doubles foes, 8-4.
In singles action, all six Falcons earned sweeps, and no player lost more than six games. Romer led the way, with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of BU's Kim Jenson at the fifth flight. Senior Cameron Benjamin lost only one total game at the sixth flight, while Volle won by an identical 6-0, 6-1 result at flight number three.
Schoenberger and Jakupcin picked up victories at the top-two flights, while Nussbaum was the winning player at the fourth flight.
