HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - For the second-straight game, Bowling Green State University junior Liz Vrabel pitched well enough to win. But, as was the case in Vrabel's last outing, the Falcons could not push a run across the plate, and fell to Boston College by a 1-0 score late Friday night. The game, a late addition to the Worth Invitational schedule, was held at Golden West Junior College.
The Eagles scored the game's lone run in the sixth inning, putting runners on the corners thanks to a walk and single. BC's Ashley Obrest followed with a shot off the third baseman's glove, scoring Jenna Macchi with the game winner.
Britney Thompson (4-3) earned the win for BC, scattering four hits and striking out four in the complete-game shutout. Vrabel allowed only one run on four hits, while striking out 10, but took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year.
Eight different players had one hit apiece in the game.
Weather permitting, the tournament is scheduled to continue with Saturday action back in Fullerton. All but one of the 10 games originally scheduled for Friday were washed away due to rain.
