FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Marissa Marzan scattered three hits while Kiki Munoz was 2-for-3 at the plate, as the host Titans downed the Bowling Green State University softball team, 4-0, Saturday afternoon (March 5). The game was part of day-two action at the Worth Invitational.
With the victory, the Titans improve to 5-5 on the season, while dropping the Falcons to 0-8.
Fullerton snapped a scoreless draw with a fourth-inning run, as Candice Baker scored on a fielding error. BGSU junior Lindsay Heimrich allowed only two hits through five innings of play, but the hosts strung together five-straight hits to open the sixth inning, en route to a three-run frame. Those hits included run-scoring singles by Baker, Ashley Van Boxmeer and Marzan.
In the circle, Marzan struck out five and worked out of a rocky start. BGSU had loaded the bases in the first inning, but Marzan got out of that jam. Marzan improved to 2-3 on the season.
Heimrich saw her record drop to 0-3, as she allowed three earned runs and seven hits in her complete-game effort.
At the plate, the Falcons got hits off the bats of senior Kristen Anderson and sophomores Megan McPherson and Ashley Zirkle.
BGSU was scheduled to return to the diamond Saturday night to face Nevada.
