BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Burke Badenhop recorded nine strikeouts in a complete game shutout over the University at Buffalo, leading the BGSU baseball team to a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Warren E. Steller Field. The win moves the Falcons to 20-8 overall and 5-4 in Mid-American Conference action.
The Perrysburg, Ohio, native set the tone early, striking out the side in the first, and went on to mow down six of the first nine hitters. Badenhop (6-1) allowed only one runner to reach third base the entire game, but struck out his seventh batter of the contest to put an end to the Bull's rally. He faced only 34 batters, recording 14 groundouts, four fly outs, and the nine strikeouts.
BGSU recorded their only run of the game in the bottom of the first when sophomore Eric Lawson led off the inning with a double to right center, followed by three straight walks to Jeff Warnock, Nolan Reimold and Andy Hudak. Hudak's RBI walked turned out to be the only run of the contest after Buffalo starter Matt Johnson set down the next three batters to get out of the jam.
Johnson (2-3) also pitched a complete game, throwing eight strong innings, allowing only five hits and walking four, while recording three strikeouts.
Up next for the Falcons will be a trip to South Bend, Indiana on Tuesday, April 12 for a showdown with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
