Indian Springs, Ohio -
For the sixth consecutive year, Walden Ponds Golf Club will play host to the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship this weekend, April 22-24. An upscale 18-hole championship golf course, Walden Ponds is situated on 500 acres in thriving Indian Springs, Ohio.
Bowling Green finished eighth out of nine teams last season with a 54-hole score of 992 and Jenny Schnipke recorded the best finish ever by a Falcon, placing third. BGSU has finished as high as fifth twice (2000 and 2001).
This year coach Kurt Thomas will rely on youth to lead the way. Three of the top four averages on the team belong to freshmen while the other is a sophomore. Freshman Jessica McCann enters the tournament with a team-low 81.06 average through 18 rounds, followed by fellow frosh Carley Hrusovsky (83.83 avg.), sophomore Kari Liggett (84.22 avg.), and freshman Amanda Bader (84.22 avg.). Junior Amanda Schroeder enters the tournament with an 87.0 average.
Tee times are scheduled for 9:40 a.m. on Friday, 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Brief Description of Walden Ponds, taken from www.MAC-Sports.com...
The plush bent grass tees, fairways, and greens meander through breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The deep faced bunkers and large greens are trademarks of course designer Michael Hurdzan. The 7001 yard, par 72 course will challenge any and all players who come to the experience this championship course. When you are finished you can relax in the 1830's mansion and enjoy the atmosphere that can not be duplicated anywhere else.
