Falcons Drop 5-2 Decision to Miami

HAMILTON, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team captured wins at each of the top-two singles flights, but host Miami was able to pick up victories at each of the other flights en route to a 5-2 victory over the Falcons Friday afternoon (April 22). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at the Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
With the win, the RedHawks improve to 15-6 overall and 6-2 in MAC play, while the Falcons fall to 12-8 and 4-4, respectively.
Senior Susie Schoenberger and sophomore Ashley Jakupcin played strong singles matches for the Falcons. Schoenberger was able to defeat Linda Jirouskova 7-6, 2-6, 10-3, at the top flight, improving to 15-13 in singles this year.
Jakupcin downed MU's Katrina Lomidze at the second flight, upping her singles mark to a team-best 22-7, including 14-5 in dual play at the second level. Jakupcin leads the Falcons with 39 overall wins this season.
Miami's Kelly Douple recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrea Volle while Leda Pesatova defeated Heidi Romer at the fourth flight 6-0, 6-1. Miami also got wins at the fifth and sixth flights.
In doubles play, Schoenberger and Romer were defeated by Jirouskova and Lomidze, 8-0. Jakupcin and teammate Jenna Nussbaum lost to Pesatova and Swain 8-5. Andrea Meister and Andrea Volle who played at the third doubles flight against Pulido and Douple suffered an 8-6 loss.
The Falcons will close the regular season on Saturday (April 23), taking on Marshall University in a 1:00 p.m. start in Huntington, W.Va. Then, the Brown and Orange will prepare for the MAC Championships, which will be held Thursday through Sunday (April 28-May 1) in Muncie, Ind.
