Let's Play Two - TWICE!
BGSU will host IPFW this weekend, April 29-30, for TWO, seven-inning doubleheaders at Warren Steller Field. Friday's twinbill kicks off at 2 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday will be used as a rain day if any contests are washed out either Friday or Saturday. IPFW defeated BGSU, 15-14, April 19 in Fort Wayne. In that game, SR Andy Hudak smacked a career-high three home runs and walked three times.
Danny Schmitz One Win Away from 400
Head Coach Danny Schmitz is one win shy of becoming the first BGSU coach in ANY SPORT to reach the 400-win plateau. Schmitz' record entering Friday's games stands at 399-355-4 (.529 pct.) in 15 seasons with the Brown and Orange. He is third on the MAC active coaching list for career wins, behind Ohio's Joe Carbone (503) and EMU's Roger Coryell (476). Schmitz' 208 MAC wins are also third among active coaches.
BGSU's Alan Brech Breaking Batters
SO Alan Brech (Harrison, Ohio) is keeping opposing hitters on their toes. The lefty has a team-low 2.11 ERA in 42.2 innings overall, ranking him second-best in the MAC and 47th nationally. His minuscule 0.67 ERA in 27.0 innings of league play is tops in the conference. He was named MAC West Co-Pitcher of the Week last week after striking out a career-high 10 in a 5-1 victory at Northern Illinois on April 15. He also was two outs away from a no-hitter on April 1 in a 2-0 victory vs. Central Michigan. He has a team-high 44 strikeouts to go along with just 10 walks while batters are hitting just .247 against him. Brech is third in the league with 9.28 strikeouts per nine innings.
April Showers Bringing Stellar Performances
Despite four rain outs recently, the month of April has been pretty good to several Falcons. JR Josh Stewart is batting .435 with an on-base pct. of .471, and is tied with SR Andy Hudak with 20 hits during the month. Speaking of Hudak, in April he has been named MAC Player of the Week twice, is batting .357 with 15 runs scored, five doubles, four home runs, 18 RBIs, a .661 slugging pct., and a .438 on-base pct. On the mound, SO Alan Brech has been nearly unhittable. Brech has a 0.81 ERA in 22.1 IPP, including a near no-hitter, just two runs allowed with 21 strikeouts and just two base-on-balls. Opposing hitters are hitting just .195 vs. him.
Falcons In the National Rankings...
JR Nolan Reimold is 10th nationally in home runs per game (0.35 pg) and 27th with his .713 slugging pct. Of Reimold's 40 hits, half are for extra bases (12 home runs, 5 doubles, 3 triples). SR Jeff Warnock is ranked ninth in the country in sacrifice hits per game (0.29 pg). He has 10 sacrifice hits so far this season, while laying down 12 sacrifice hits in 2004. The school record for sacrifice hits in a season is 17 by Mike Lanseer in 1977. And SO Alan Brech is 47th in the nation with a 2.11 ERA through 42.2 IPP. His ERA in league games is a minuscule 0.67 in 27.0 IPP.

Two innings in particular stand out for the Falcons when it comes to producing runs - the fifth and ninth innings. BGSU is outscoring opponents 41-17 in the fifth frame and 26-4 in the ninth frame.
