Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green completed a three-game series sweep of visiting Central Michigan with a 8-5 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday. Tyler Wasserman drove in four runs while Burke Badenhop (5-1) and Adam Gumpf teamed up on the mound to preserve the victory.
CMU jumped out with four runs in the third inning to stake a 4-0 lead. BGSU cut into that with three runs of its own in the fourth inning. The Falcons then plated four more runs in the fifth inning, three of them coming off a bases-clearing double by Wasserman for a 7-4 BGSU lead.
The Chippewas (15-10, 0-3) cut their deficit to one run in the sixth inning but could not get any closer. BGSU added an insurance run in the seventh inning when senior Andy Hudak scored off a groundout by Steve Raszka.
Badenhop picked up his career-best fifth season victory by lasting six innings, scattering eight hits and five runs (three earned), with two walks and two strikeouts. Gumpf then pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The save was Gumpf's first of his career.
Sophomore Josh Stewart was the only Falcon with multiple hits (2-for-3) while Hudak crossed the plate three times.
BGSU improves to 17-6 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-American Conference. It marks BGSU's first series sweep of a MAC foe since May of 2002 when the Falcons took four games vs. Akron.
The Falcons host Heidelberg on Tuesday, April 5, at 3 p.m. at Warren Steller Field before travelling to Wright State on Wednesday night.
