Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green rebounded from a 3-0 deficit and went on to defeat visiting Heidelberg College on Tuesday afternoon, 14-4, at Warren Steller Field. The Falcons ripped 15 hits to HC's nine while junior Nolan Reimold brought home six runs in the sixth inning, alone, thanks to two home runs.
HC catcher Tyler Tocco drove in the first run with an RBI-double in the second inning before driving in two more in the fourth inning with a triple and a 3-0 lead. BGSU tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The runs came off a RBI-double from Andrew Foster and a two-RBI single by Bobby Majer.
BGSU broke the game open with nine runs in the fifth inning, six coming off the bat of Reimold who leads the Mid-American Conference with 38 RBIs. Jeff Warnock led off the frame with a double to right field before trotting home on Reimold's 11th home run of the season for a 5-3 BGSU lead. Andy Hudak then doubled and Steve Raszka walked one out later.
That brought in Matt Dyke to relieve starter Jason Marsik (1-2), however, the hits continued. A Foster walk loaded the bases for Majer who hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Hudak for a 6-3 Falcon advantage. Josh Stewart then pinch hit for Mike Barnard and roped a single to left field, scoring pinch-runner David Quick for a 7-3 lead. Then Dash Yost doubled to down the right-field line, scoring Foster. Warnock was hit by a pitch from Dyke to load the bases for Reimold, who smacked his second home run of the inning and MAC-leading 12th of the season. Reimold became the second Falcon this season to hit two home runs in one inning. Stewart was the other on March 20 vs. Eastern Michigan.
Each team plated a run in the seventh inning while BGSU added another in the eighth for the final 14-4 verdict.
Freshman Nick Cantrell (1-0) had entered in relief of starter Greg Becker in the top of the fifth inning and pitched well the rest of the game, picking up his first collegiate decision. Cantrell allowed just five hits and one run over the final five innings, walking one and striking out four. Becker gave up three runs (two earned) in four innings of work on four hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The victory pushed BGSU's winning streak to six games while it was the eighth game the Falcons reached double-digit run totals.
Reimold finished 2-for-4 with six RBIs while Majer was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Stewart ended 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs after entering the game in the fifth inning.
BGSU improves to 18-6 overall while Heidelberg drops to 6-8 overall. The Falcons travel to Wright State in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday night for a 6:30 p.m. contest. BGSU hosts MAC foe Buffalo this weekend at Warren Steller Field (April 8-10).
