Men's Soccer Announces 2005 Recruiting Class

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Nine student-athletes are set to join the Falcons Men's soccer program beginning in the Fall of 2005, Bowling Green head coach Fred Thompson announced.
This year's recruiting class includes George Davis (Lima, OH.), Ryan Epps (Jackson, MS.) Cameron Hepple (Nassau, Bahamas), Justin Kim (Mililani, HI.), Jason Lopez (Naperville, IL), Kyle McNayr (Oklahoma City, OK), Mark Scholz (Dayton, OH.), Paul Shoemaker (Commerce, MI.) and Andy Synk (Strongsville, OH.).
"We are thrilled to be bringing in these nine outstanding high school players," Thompson said. "In the tradition of Bowling Green, we have brought in some very good Ohio players; Michigan talent, other talent from around the country and an international. We believe this recruiting class will give us the solid foundation and versatility we need to start us down the road to mirroring the exceptional Falcon soccer teams of old."
George Davis IV Midfielder/ Forward 5-7 Lima, OH. Elida HS
Club/High School: Helped high school become district champion for the last three years (2002, 2003, 2004), a key player in their run to the Regional Finals (2002)...1st Team All-WBL (Western Buckeye League) 2002, 2003, 2004...Honorable Mention All-District (2002)...1st Team All-District (2003, 2004)...leading scorer, Team Offensive and Midfield Most Valuable Player (2004)...played for high school coach Tom Thomas (Bowling Green Soccer alumnus)...a member of the ODP (Olympic Development Program) State Team and Super Y League ODP National Select Team (2004).
Personal: George Davis IV...born August 5, 1987...parents are George III and Tisha...has two brothers, Alexander and Austin...has a sister, Amber.
Coach Thompson On Davis: "George is an outstanding athlete who is very good with the ball. He loves taking players on and tends to get something out of the encounter. He can play on the flank or up top. George could easily make an immediate offensive impact."
Ryan Epps Midfielder 6-0 Madison, MS. Madison Central HS
Club/High School: Started for Central Jackson Soccer Organization(CJSO) where he helped the team win three consecutive state titles. Team leader in assist. Coached by Bill Griffiths. Six year starter for the Mississippi 87 ODP team. All-district performer at Madison Central High School.
Personal: Ryan Epps...born October 9, 1987...parents are Raymond and Debra...has two brothers, Raymond Jr and Marcus.
Coach Thompson On Epps: "Ryan is a center midfielder with fantastic tools. He receives balls extremely well; can run with the ball and pass on the move. Physically, he has a great frame; I can see him becoming the anchor player in midfield and he could win that role this Fall."
Cameron Hepple Midfielder 5-11 Nassau, Bahamas St. Andrew's School
Club/High School: Plays for the Bahamas full national team coached by Gary White...he was the captain of the Bahamas U17 MNT... has earned six caps with the U17's, two caps with the U23's and three caps with the full team...has scored two international goals...attends St. Andrews School in the IB World School (International Baccalaureate)...has led St. Andrews to the finals every year he has played...as a thirteen year old went on trials to Southampton FC and Wolverhampton FC...a starter at every level; high school, club, national team.
Personal: Cameron Robert Hepple...born May 19, 1988...parents are James and Carolyn...has a sister Brittany.
Coach Thompson On Hepple: "Cameron is a young player with incredible potential. He is very skilled and able to get behind defenses - on his own as well as putting others in. He will most likely play on the left side although he is equally good with both feet. Cameron will be a fun player to watch and could easily make one of the flank positions his own"
Justin Kim Midfielder 6-3 Mililani, HI. Mililani HS
Club/High School: Played at Mililani High School for coach Jeff Yamamoto...an integral part of Mililani winning four straight high school championships...chosen Honolulu Advertiser Hawaii High School Player of the Year for 2004...instrumental in helping the Honolulu Bulls '85 U19 team become the first Hawaii team to win the US Youth Soccer Association national championship... coached by Phil Neddo (renowned for his gift of player development).
Personal: Justin P Kim aka JK...born November 22, 1985...parents are Darlene and Patrick Pascual...has a brother, Cory...has a sister, Brittani.
Coach Thompson on Kim: "Justin is very smooth for a player of his size. He has excellent feet, runs well with the ball and above all passes well on the move. He has an attacking mindset, likes to create goals and is good on set pieces. He is able to receive and play balls in tight spaces. I can see Justin staking his claim to one of the center midfield positions."
Jason Lopez Defender 5-10 Naperville, IL. Neuqua Valley High School
Club/High School: Started for Stingers FC where he helped the team to several semi-final appearances in state cup...now a member of Galaxy SC coached by Brett Strang (Bowling Green Soccer alumnus)...3 year starter for Jim John's Neuqua Valley Men's Varsity team...helped win state title his junior year (28-1-1)...integral part of a defense which earned 39 shut-outs over the course of his junior and senior year. Personal: Jason Lopez...born February 27,1987...parents are Bill and Joy...has a sister, Jackie.
Coach Thompson On Lopez: "Jason is a flank defender who has the ability to play on either the left or right. He is as tenacious a defender as you will find and is also a capable attacker. Jason sounds like a Falcon player of old; he trains as hard as he plays, he's feisty, gritty, scrappy, isn't afraid of hard work and has some soccer in him. I expect that whatever the challenge is put in front of us, Jason will fight to overcome it."
Kyle McNayr Defender 5-11 Oklahoma City, OK. Classen School of Advanced Studies
Club/High School: A 2004 NSCAA/Adidas HS All American and Gatorade Oklahoma Player of the year...National Honor Society throughout high school...2005 Valedictorian at Classen School of Advanced Studies... plays for Coach Emanuel Thompson...a four year letterman, Kyle made Who's Who Among HS Students-Sports Edition (2004, 2005)...member of the Oklahoma City NWO Spirit '87...helped the Spirit to five consecutive state championships...co-captained team that took second place in the Snickers Southern Regional Championship (2004)...participant '86 ODP sub-Regional and Regional camps 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003.
Personal: Kyle Philip McNayr...born September 1, 1986...parents are Philip and Nancy...has a brother Seth.
Coach Thompson On McNayr: "Kyle is extremely intelligent, very strong, very fast and above all he's very responsible. Kyle has all the tools you like to see in a center back. I believe he'll quickly adjust to the college game and become a permanent fixture on the field."
Mark Scholz Goalkeeper 6-2 Beavercreek, OH. Beavercreek HS Club/High School: Attends Beavercreek High School...played for Coach John Guiliano...a four year letterman...helped Beavercreek win district championship, first time in 13 years. ..member of The National Honor Society...helped Team Dayton to two consecutive state championships.
Personal: Mark Daniel Scholz....born August 31, 1986...parents are Ronald and Catherine...has two brothers, Matt and Steven.
Coach Thompson On Scholz: "Mark has great size and mobility; a very solid keeper with a tremendous upside. What's exciting about him is how much better he's gotten just over the last few months. He has the physical tools and I believe he will thrive and grow in the college environment. I expect that Mark will battle for the starting position"
Paul Shoemaker Goalkeeper 6-4 Commerce, MI. Brother Rice HS
Club/High School: Plays for the Michigan Wolves 87 and Coach Ed McArthy...helped team win the last two State Cups...regional semi finals 2 years ago...perennial ODP standout...ODP regional team in 2002, regional pool 2001-2004, state team 2000-2005.
Personal: Paul Shoemaker...born August 8, 1987...parents are Mark and Pam...has a brother Greg, 24...has a sister Lisa, 14.
Coach Thompson On Shoemaker: "Paul is expected to make a significant impact on our program. He has the size and all the tools needed to be a top collegiate keeper. I expect him to quickly assert himself in the run for the starting position. Bowling Green has a history of great goalkeepers, Paul has the potential to join that list."
Andy Synk Midfielder 5-7 Strongsville, OH. Strongsville HS
Club/High School: Attends Strongsville High School, and plays for Coach Tobey Cook...member of the Ohio North state team for four years... plays with the Cleveland Internationals... helped them qualify for the Super Y League National Finals (2004)...instrumental in helping previous team, Cleveland Football Club (CFC), win three Ohio North State Championships...helped CFC become Region 2 runners up (2002).
Personal: Andrew Weber Synk...born March 6, 1987...parents are Tim and Kathleen...has two brothers, James (twin) and Mike...has two sister, Meg and Mary.
Coach Thompson On Synk: "Andy comes from a great soccer environment and you can see that in how he plays. He has a good frame and is a very technical player. Because of those assets he will be able to meet a number of our teams needs. Andy can help us with possession as well as finish. Keeping the ball moving will be his calling card."
