Three members of the Bowling Green State University baseball team have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Baseball First Team, as selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The Falcons selected include Burke Badenhop (Perrysburg, Ohio), Andy Hudak (Toledo, Ohio) and Jeff Warnock (Cincinnati, Ohio).
This marks the first time BGSU has had three players selected All-District IV First Team. These three Falcons, along with the rest of the first team, will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. University Division District IV consists of all NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
To be nominated for the Academic All-American program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point-average and a starter or significant reserve on his team.
Badenhop earned his degree in economics on May 7 from BGSU thanks to a 3.94 GPA. The senior right-hander leads the Mid-American Conference with eight victories (8-2), which is the most wins for a Falcon since 2000. He also leads BGSU with 61.2 IPP, 10 starts, and two complete games, including his first career shutout on April 10 vs. Buffalo. His 3.94 ERA is third-best among Falcon hurlers. He was named April 27 as BGSU's Senior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Last season, he earned the award for Junior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was also named to the All-MAC Academic First Team. He was tabbed the MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week on April 11 and was MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week on April 14. The 6-foot-5, 200 pounder is sixth all-time at BGSU with 68 career appearances, tied for sixth all-time with 16 career victories, and ninth with 167 career strikeouts as of May 12.
