AKRON, Ohio - Bowling Green State University junior pitcher Liz Vrabel has been named to the Mid-American Conference Softball All-Tournament Team. The announcement was made following Sunday's (May 15) championship game at Firestone Stadium.
Vrabel, BGSU's lone selection to the MAC's all-tourney team, showed why she was named the MAC Pitcher of the Year in 2005. In four tournament appearances, Vrabel had an earned-run average of just 0.33, while allowing opponents to bat a collective .114 against her.
Vrabel had a record of 2-1 at the tourney, surrendering only one earned run and eight hits in 21 1/3 innings. She walked two batters while striking out 30.
On the season, Vrabel had a 17-14 record and shattered the school record with 237 strikeouts. She finished her junior campaign with a career total of 575 K's, also a school record and the seventh-highest total in MAC history.
The Falcons finished with an overall record of 29-30 on the season, and went 2-2 in the MAC Tournament. Both of the Falcons' tourney setbacks came to eventual champion Miami. The RedHawks beat Marshall, 5-2, in Sunday's championship game.
Vrabel was joined on the all-tourney team by Central Michigan's Christan Dhondt and Christin Sobeck, Marshall's Rachel Folden, Sara Spenia and Amanda Williams, and Miami's Kristen Hays, Bianca Paz, Jackie Poggendorf and Halle Popson. Poggendorf was named the tournament MVP.
