Toledo, Ohio - Bowling Green broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning with seven runs en route to a 10-4 non-conference victory over Toledo at Scott Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons took its fourth game from the Rockets in the past six days after sweeping UT over the weekend at Warren Steller Field.
After Kurt Wells' RBI-single gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, BGSU rattled off six more runs with two outs to build a 8-1 advantage. Dash Yost (two-RBI single), Jeff Warnock (two-RBI double), and Steve Raszka (two-RBI single) supplied the rest of the runs for the Falcons.
UT answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off of Brett Browning to cut the deficit to 8-4. However, that was as close as the Rockets would get.
BGSU added runs in the sixth inning (Andy Hudak scored off a wild pitch) and seventh inning (Mike Barnard scored off a wild pitch) to build its lead to 10-4.
BGSU belted out 13 hits to UT's nine while the Rockets committed four errors. Browning (3-0) got the win while five other Falcon pitchers saw time on the mound. Starter Greg Becker allowed just one hit and no runs in two innings while Nick Cantrell allowed just two hits and no runs in two innings. Tom Oestrike, Greg Mentrek and Matt Hundley all pitched scoreless innings.
Yost (2-for-4), Warnock (2-for-4), and Raszka (2-for-4) all had multiple hits and drove in a pair of runs.
BGSU improves to 32-15 overall while UT dropped to 14-37 overall. The Falcons now travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., for an important three-game league series against Western Michigan this weekend (May 20-22). It is the regular-season finale for both teams.
If BGSU wins two games vs. the Broncos it earns itself a spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament next week (May 25-28). If the Falcons get just one win they will need Kent State (vs. Miami) or Akron (vs. Ohio) to drop two of three games this weekend.
