Women's Cross Country Announces Recruiting Class

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team, as well as the women's cross country team has announced that eight student athletes will be joining the Falcons next season. Kara Butler (Okemos, Mich.), Lacey Cochran (Freeport, Penn.), TaKarra Dunning (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Kylie Korsnack (Bowling Green, Ohio), Shantell Lewis (Cleveland, Ohio), Megan McAuley (Marietta, Ohio), Sara Morman (Ottawa, Ohio) and Colleen Moran (Poland, Ohio) will be joining the Falcons for the 2005-06 academic year.

Lacey Cochran: Freeport, Penn. (Freeport High School)
Cochran is the school record holder in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x100 relay, long jump, and most points scored in a single season. In her three years as a member of the track team she earned nine WPIAL medals (4 gold) and six PIAA State medals including the 2004 gold medal in the 400 meters. As captain of the soccer team she earned four varsity letters, inducted last year into the National Honor Society for her academic achievements. She is the daughter of Steve and Patty Cochran. Coached by Bill Dillen and plans to major in Early Childhood Education.
"I am very excited that Lacey has chosen to be a member of the BGSU community and look forward to her contributions to our program in the years to come," said head coach Scott Sehmann. "She brings a great deal of ability and competitiveness to our program from her outstanding experiences attained at Freeport High School."

TaKarra Dunning: Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Central High School)
Dunning is a Class-A shot put state champion in 2002 & 2004, All-State Academic Track and Field 2004, varsity basketball player, Academic High Honors Award winner, Class Council Member, National Honor Society member, nomination for National Honor Roll, Who's Who Among American High School Students, and a member of K-Club. She is the daughter of Kim and Steven Dunning. Coached by Dan Long. Plans to major in Biology.
"I am looking forward to the addition of another quality thrower to our program and I am excited to have the opportunity to be apart of TaKarra's future growth as a student-athlete here at Bowling Green," said coach Sehmann

Kylie Korsnack: Bowling Green, Ohio (Bowling Green High School)
Korsnack is a member of the 2003 and 2004 Girls Division I State Cross Country Championship Team. She participated in the first annual Nike Team National Cross Country Championships in Portland, Ore. in December 2004. She is also a member of the National Honors Society, as well as Earned Academic All-Ohio honors in 2003 and 2004. She has also earned varsity honors in basketball and softball for BGHS. Has a personal-best time of 19:01 in the 5,000 meters She is the daughter of Sally Tilley and Robert and Jean Korsnack. Was coached by Brian Tucker and Patrick Carney. Plans to major in secondary education.
"Kylie is fairly new to the sport of cross country but she has had two very successful seasons with the Bowling Green High School cross country team," said head cross country coach Cami Wells. "Because Kylie is a member of the varsity softball team she has not run track. I am excited to see what Kyle can accomplish in track, I believe her success in cross country coupled with her natural athleticism will be a winning combination. Kylie is an excellent student and all around gifted athlete. I am really looking forward to having Kylie join us this fall."
Shantell Lewis: Cleveland, Ohio (Collinnwood High School)
Shantell is the 2005 Indoor State Champions in the 200 meters and 4 x 400 meter relay. She also placed fourth in the 55 meter dash at the 2005 indoor state meet. The sprinter was also a member of the 2004 Division I state championship track & field team where she anchored the winning 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 200 meter relays at the state meet. Also in 2004 she placed sixth in the 100 meters at the state meet and was a member of the sprint medley team that placed second at the National Adidas Championships. She ran on the third-place 4 x 200 meter relay team at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational. She was a three-time district champion in the 100 meters, three-time city champion in the 100 meters and was a member of the 2002, 2003, & 2004 City Championship teams. She is the daughter of Dionne Kennebrew. Was coached by Louis Slapnik and plans to major in sports medicine/ athletic training.
" I am very happy to have the good fortune to introduce Shantell Lewis as a future BGSU Falcon," said Sehmann. "She brings to our a program a high level of success in the sport and will be a great addition to our sprint crew."
Megan McAuley: Marietta, Ohio (Marietta High School)
McAuley has earned 14 Varsity Letters in the sports of track, cross country, soccer and basketball. Has run a personal-bests of 27.0 for 200 meters, 58.6 for 400 meters, 2:17 for 800 meters and 5:30 for 1,600 meters. Has also thrown a personal best of 126 feet in the discus. She is the daughter of Tim and Kymberly McAuley. Was coached by Larry Cassady, and Mollie Schramm. Plans to major in sports management specializing in marketing and graphic design.
"Megan is a very gifted athlete," said coach Wells. "She can contribute in several areas on the track. She has good range from 200 meters to the 1,600 meters and I expect her to be someone who can step in and have an impact in the middle distance area right away. I am excited to have Megan joining us in the fall."
Colleen Moran: Poland, Ohio (Poland High School)
Moran was an All-MAC cross country runner from 2002-2004. She was the individual MAC cross country champion and Suburban League cross country champion in 2004. She also was an All-MAC performer in track in 2003 and 2004. The distance runner was also county champion in the 1600 meters in 2005. She was also District champion in the 1600 meters in 2004 and was a State cross country qualifier in 2003 and 2004. She was also an Academic All-Ohio member in 2003 and 2004 and earned team MVP honors that same time. She has run personal-bests of time of 18:57 for 5k, 11:32 for 3,200 meters, and 5:12 for 1,600 meters. She is the daughter of Jim and Kathy Moran. Was coached by Donald Smaltz, Troy Massey, Kim Grisdale, and Michelle Wardle. Plans to major in pre-law
"Colleen is an accomplished athlete in several sports," said Wells. "This year she has really started to show what she is capable of achieving as a runner. I believe that once Colleen is able to focus solely on running she will continue to bring her times down and be a vital member of our cross country and track teams. I am looking forward to working with Colleen, she is a very driven and gifted athlete."
Kara Butler: Okemos, Mich. (Okemos High School)
Butler helped lead her high school team to two consecutive State meets in 2003 and 2004. She placed 33rd in 2004 Div. I State meet. She was a member of the all area girls' Cross Country Dream Team pick by the Lansing State Journal in 2004. She was named to the Top-10 Senior Athlete in CAAC League in 2004-2005 and Valedictorian and Vice President of school's National Honor Society. Has a personal-best of 19:15 for 5,000m. She is the daughter of Paul and Jennifer Butler. Was coached by John Quiring, Anne Hallgren, Larry Bozyk, and Debby Mitchell. Plans to major in biology.
"Kara is a very strong student boasting a 4.0 average and has run competitive times in track and cross country during her high school career," said Wells. "I believe Kara has great potential to continue to improve as a runner and she has an excellent attitude. Kara will be a great addition to our squad."

Sara Morman: Ottawa, Ohio (Ottawa-Glandorf High School)
Morman is the high school record holder in the 100 meter hurdles. She is also the record holder at the Gold Medal Invitational in 100 meter hurdles, 4x200 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay. The sprinter is also the record holder at the Bath Invitational in the 100 meter hurdles. She was voted most valuable player in 2004 and was voted outstanding hurdler in 2003 and 2004 by her teammates. She was named to the Track and Field Honor Roll in 2004-2005 and was named Gatorade Athlete of the Year, that same season., She earned four varsity letters in track and two in volleyball. She was the runner-up in the 55 meter hurdles at the OAT State Indoor Track Meet in 2005. She is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Morman. Plans to major in Nursing.
"Sara will bring much needed depth to our short hurdle crew," said Sehmann. "She has had an outstanding high school career and we look forward to seeing continued improvement throughout her career as a Falcon."
