CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Mid-American Conference office has released the 2005 Academic All-MAC Women's Tennis Team, and Bowling Green State University junior Heidi Romer has been named to the eight-member team, it was announced Wednesday (May 4). The team is the result of voting by the faculty athletic representatives at the 10 member tennis institutions sponsoring the sport.
Romer was the lone repeat selection to the 2005 team, having also earned the honor as a sophomore.
Romer, a native of Long Grove, Ill. (Stevenson HS), recently completed her season with a 16-13 singles record. Romer had a 13-15 doubles mark, and ranks second among active Falcons with 86 combined career wins.
Romer has a 3.88 cumulative grade point average, the highest on the team, as an early childhood studies major.
Rattiya Hiranrat and Reedhina Parekh of regular-season champion Western Michigan joined Romer on the team, as did Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie of league tournament champion Marshall. Miami also had two representatives on the team, in Nancy Wiegand and Linda Jirouskova, while Ball State's Jessica Thompson rounded out the squad.
The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
The Falcons recently concluded the season with an overall dual-match record of 12-10, and a MAC regular-season mark of 4-5.
