Jacobs Named MAC Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's Omar Jacobs has been recognized as a Mid-American Conference Football Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Sept. 12). Jacobs was named the East Division's Offensive P-O-W after completing 27-of-43 passes for 428 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday's 40-31 victory over Ball State.
Jacobs has earned MAC Player of the week for the second consecutive week after completing 30-of-51 passes for a career-high 458 yards and five touchdowns versus Wisconsin last week.
For the season, the Delray Beach, Fla. native has completed 57-of-94 passes (60.6%) for 856 and 10 touchdowns.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jacobs had his second consecutive week with five touchdown passes, completing 27 of 43 pass attempts for 428 yards while suffering one interception in a 40-31 win at Ball State. Down 31-28 with 10:44 remaining in the game, Jacobs an 80-yard, five-play drive in just 44 seconds to reclaim the lead for good in the Falcons conference opener.
Defensive Player of the Week
Dion Byrum, cornerback, Ohio (Sr., Matthews, N.C./Monroe)
Byrum returned two interceptions for touchdowns, the second one 85 yards in overtime, in a 16-10 win over Pittsburgh to mark head coach Frank Solich's first win as Bobcats' mentor. Byrum also had a 38-yard theft he ran back for a score in the second quarter for a 10-3 Ohio lead. He was also credited with three solo tackles and a pass break up. He was also named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Domenik Hixon, kick return, Akron (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling)
Hixon returned 5 kickoff returns for 144 yards at Purdue, an average of 28.8 ypk to help with starting field position against the Top 20 ranked Boilermakers. He also had 6 receptions for 79 yards as a wide receiver. Hixon leads the nation in all-purpose yards with his 221.0 per game average.
