Falcons Take Flight
Bowling Green State University will travel to Xavier University Wednesday, Sept. 14...kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m....the Falcons enter the match with a 0-3-1 record while the Musketeers have posted a 0-1-1 record in 2005...fans can follow the Falcons action through live Gametracker stats on bgsufalcons.com.
Birds of a Feather Flock Together
Sophomore Greg Hennelly scored the lone goal for the Falcons in their 2-1 loss at the University of Evansville on a free kick from 25 yards...it was his first goal of the 2005 season...he has scored three career goals as a Falcon...freshman George Davis ties Hennelly in points scored as they each have two on the season...senior Omari aldridge and freshman Justin Kim each have one assist in 2005...in four starts, freshman Paul Shoemaker has 22 saves in 380:00 minutes...according to Thompson, freshman Andy Synk and the young corps of defenders comprised of fellow freshmen Jason Lopez, Kyle McNayr and sophomore John MacKenzie are molding as a unit making scoring chances for the opposition few and far between.
In the Last Week
The Orange and Brown fell to Wright State University, 1-0, on Friday, Sept. 9...Shoemaker had three saves on six shots...after taking an early advantage, the Falcons dropped a decision at the University of Evansville...Hennelly scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 loss...keeper Shoemaker had six stops on eight shots.
Scouting the Musketeers
Xavier University of the Atlantic 10 Conference, who ended last season with a 5-12-2 record, will open their home season against the Falcons Wednesday, Sept. 14...Dave Schureck, a Xavier alum, is in his first season as the Musketeers head coach after spending five seasons with the Dayton Flyers...assistant coaches Alex Aldaz and Michael Popejoy are also in their first season...the Musketeers return nine starters from the 2004 season after losing just two...20 of 23 lettermen are back from the 2004 season...Top scorer for Xavier, Toni Skudrzik, who finished the 2004 season with seven goals and four assists, returns for his junior season...Jon Enders has the lone goal for XU to date...Veteran keepers junior Liam Curran (0 ga, 3 svs) and Ty Helmle (2 ga, 5 svs) will split time in the net...XU has yet to find a win in the 2005 season coming into the match-up with a 0-1-1 record.

The first meeting between the Falcons and Musketeers was in 1982...BGSU won in Cincinnati by a score of 2-1...BGSU holds the series advantage 6-3...the Falcons have out scored the Musketeers 23-14...the last time the Musketeers lost was in a 3-0 shutout in 1997...in 2004, Xavier beat the Falcons at Cochrane Field 4-0.
Leading the Flock
Fred Thompson is in his second year as BGSU head coach after serving two seasons as assistant at the University of Evansville and two years at Bellevue Community College... named 2001 NWAACC Coach of the Year... became only the fourth head coach in the 40-year history of the BGSU program after accepting the job in April, 2004 ... played professionally for eight years... assistant coach Tony Economopoulos is in his third season with the Falcons...served two seasons as assistant coach at Western Illinois University... 2002 AFLAC Insurance National Assistant Coach of the Year nominee.

Both of the Falcons goals have come in the first half...four of the five goals scored by BGSU opponents have come in the second half...XU has not played a competitive match since September 4.
