BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - With two games down, the BGSU Falcons will continue their road schedule with a pair at Wright State University and the University of Evansville...the Falcons will travel to Dayton on Friday, Sept. 9, to take on the Raiders under the lights at Alumni Field...BGSU will make the trip to Evansville, Ind. to take on the Purple Aces Sunday, Sept. 11...the showdown at Black Beauty Field at Arad McCutchan Stadium is set for high noon.
Birds of a Feather Flock Together
The 2005 roster features 10 freshmen and a sophomore class which outnumbers the upperclassmen, 7-6...freshman George Davis scored his first collegiate goal against Eastern Illinois...in 200:00 minutes, freshman Paul Shoemaker has 13 saves and just two goals against...Shoemaker recorded one save in each of the Falcons' overtime periods.
Falcon Facts
BGSU currently holds a 0-1-1 record after participating in the UW-Green Bay Nike Tournament in Green Bay, Wisc. ...the Falcons fell to Sacred Heart University in the season opener 1-0...in their second tournament match, the Falcons tied Eastern Illinois University 1-1...seven of the Falcon's nine matches scheduled for September are on the road...MAC play will not begin for BGSU until Oct. 7 when the Falcons host Northern Illinois University.
Scouting the Raiders
The Wright State University Raiders of the Horizon League finished the 2004 season with a 7-12-1 overall record... to date, the Raiders, under fourth year head coach Mike Tracy, are 0-2...the Raiders return two of the four leading scorers from the 2004 team...remaining in the offensive attack are senior Jason Tackis (5g, 0a) and junior Tony Labudovski (4g, 4a)...senior forward Paul-Anthony Perez holds the lone 2005 season goal for WSU...senior keeper Jason Ballach currently has five goals against and has captured 10 saves in 180:00...WSU will open their home season when the Falcons visit Alumni Field...the Falcons will also be the first of two Mid-American Conference opponents to visit the field this weekend...WSU will take on Akron Sunday, Sept. 11.
Scouting the Purple Aces
The University of Evansville Purple Aces of the Missouri Valley Conference finished the 2004 season with a 6-13-1 overall record...to date, the Purple Aces, under third year head coach Dave Golan, are 0-1-1...UE returns seven starters from the 2004 team...senior Chris Binder (5g, 3a), the top returning offensive threat, has one goal for the season...sophomore Erik Johnson also leads the Purple Aces with one goal on the season...both goals were scored in the 2-2 tie against Lipscomb...Purple Ace keepers include underclassmen Corey Southers (7ga, 4 saves) and Matt Vessells (0ga, 1 save)...EU holds a 0-1 record against the MAC in 2005...Akron shutout EU Sept. 2, 5-0...EU will begin weekend action when the Memphis Tigers travel to Black Beauty Field on Sept. 9.
Leading the Flock
Fred Thompson is in his second year as BGSU head coach after serving two seasons as assistant at the University of Evansville and two years at Bellevue Community College...named 2001 NWAACC Coach of the Year...became only the fourth head coach in the 40-year history of the BGSU program after accepting the job in April, 2004...played professionally for eight years...assistant coach Tony Economopoulos is in his third season with the Falcons...served two seasons as assistant coach at Western Illinois University...2002 AFLAC Insurance National Assistant Coach of the Year nominee.
