Falcons Split Time At Home and on the Road in Conference Play

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Feeding off their 2-1 victory at the University of Pittsburgh, the Falcons (3-10-1, 0-2-0) will attempt to push their road streak to three straight on Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne at IPFW. But before looking ahead to the 1:00 p.m. start with the Mastodons (1-12-11, 0-3-0), coach Fred Thompson's Falcons will host regionally ranked No. 10 Akron (8-4-1, 2-1-0) in their last home match of the season. The match against the Zips will be the second half of double-header Mid-American Conference play as the Falcon women host Central Michigan to kick-off the day. The women's match will begin at 12:00 p.m. while the men are scheduled to face Akron at 3:00 p.m.

The Orange and Brown built upon their road victory resume in a 2-1 win against the University of Pittsburgh Panthers last Wednesday...BGSU has taken two straight wins on unfriendly fields...Justin Kim recorded both of the Falcons goals ...freshman Jacob Lawrence and sophomore Kyle Williams recorded their first assists as Falcons on Kim's first goal...Alec Perea contributed his second assist of the season on Kim's second goal.

Akron Team History
Caleb Porter begins his first season as head coach of the Zips after coming over from Indiana where he spent six seasons as an assistant coach...he inherits an 18-1-4 from a season ago that won the MAC Championship with a perfect 5-0-0 record...the team's season however, came to an end in the NCAA quarterfinals with a 4-1 loss in penalty kicks to top-seeded Maryland after the game ended in a 1-1 tie...for their efforts Soccer America ranked them #1 in the final season rankings...the Zips were the first MAC team in any sport to achieve a #1 ranking as they claimed the top spot in the national polls for four weeks...thirteen letter winners, including eight starters return from last year's squad.
Akron in 2006
The Zips are coming off a 1-0 victory over Michigan on Wednesday and have only one loss in their last five contests...the 1-0 loss was a result of their last MAC contest at No. 19 Northern Illinois...the loss is the first for Akron in MAC play since a 1-0 loss to Western Michigan on Oct. 15, 2004...the Zips are yet to win a road contest in 2006 going 0-2-1 away from home...they are 7-1-0 at Lee Jackson Field...they have recorded eight shutouts on the year, but have yet to beat an opponent who has scored three or more goals.
Akron in the MAC
Currently tied for second place in the MAC...they are 2-1-0 in MAC play...both victories came at home against IPFW and Western Michigan...their lone MAC road match resulted in the 1-0 loss at NIU...senior Sinisa Ubiparipovic currently leads the MAC in shots averaging 3.33 a game in conference play, he is also ranked third in the MAC in points with 5 as he is averaging 1.67 points per game...UA is second in the MAC in points (12), goals (5), goals per game (1.67), goals against average (0.33), and shutouts (2)...the Zips lead the MAC in corner kicks with 20, averaging 6.67 a game.
BGSU/Akron History
In a series that dates back to 1966, BGSU owns a 8-33-3 record against the Zips...Akron has won the last four meetings and five of the last six...last season the then No.1 Zips blanked the Falcons 3-0 in Akron...Bowling Green became the first team to hold UA scoreless in the first half over a four match span...the last Falcon win against the Zips came in 2002 when they recorded a 1-0 victory at Mickey Cochrane Stadium...BG is 3-13-2 against the Zips at home.

IPFW Team History
The Mastodons have been coached by veteran head coach Terry Stefankiewicz for the past 26 seasons...during his career at IPFW, the `Dons have amassed a 189-191-20 record...in their inaugural season in the MAC, IPFW finished sixth...to date they have yet to win a conference match...the 2005 squad finished with a 3-17-0 record...despite returning 10 lettermen, IPFW lost six starters from last year's squad.
IPFW in 2006
IPFW enters the match after recording their first tie of the season against Cleveland State on Wednesday...the 2-2 (2OT) match was the fourth one this season in which the `Dons scored two or more goals...their only win was a 4-3 victory on October 1 over St. Joe College.
IPFW in the MAC
The `Dons have yet to record a MAC victory since joining last season...they will face Western Michigan on Friday at home before hosting the Falcons on Sunday.
BGSU/IPFW Series History
Since IPFW joined the MAC in 2005 the Falcons are 1-0 against the Mastodons posting a 2-1 win last year at Mickey Cochrane Field...BG owns a 3-2 all-time record in the series...this will be the first meeting between the teams at IPFW as conference foes.
