MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University football team suffered a 31-14 loss at Central Michigan University on Thursday night (Oct. 19). Some notes and numbers from the game at Kelly-Shorts Stadium:
* For the Falcons, the loss snapped a five-game MAC road winning streak. BGSU's last road loss in conference play came at Toledo on Nov. 23, 2004.
* Central Michigan improved to a perfect 5-0 in MAC play. It marks the Chippewas' first 5-0 start in league action since 1990.
* Despite the loss, the Falcons still lead the all-time series with the Chippewas, 21-17. Central's win on Thursday snapped a five-game series winning streak for the Brown and Orange.
* For the fifth time this season, redshirt freshman Freddie Barnes scored two touchdowns in a game. Barnes also turned the trick against Wisconsin, Buffalo, Florida International and Ohio. He now has a total of 11 TDs on the season.
* On CMU's second possession of the game, midway through the opening quarter, Falcon sophomore Adrian Baker recovered a Chippewa fumble. For Davis, it marked his first career fumble recovery.
* Redshirt sophomore Diyral Briggs sacked CMU quarterback Dan LeFevour with five-and-a-half minutes left in the opening quarter. For Briggs, the sack was his fifth of the season, giving him a total of 9.5 in his career.
* With a number of injuries to the Falcon defensive line, junior Brandon Mack, normally an offensive lineman, was moved to the defensive side of the ball.
* Redshirt freshman Chris Bullock ran for a team-high 91 yards on 20 carries in the game. Bullock now has a total of 497 yards this season, with 475 of those coming in his last five games.
* The Falcons' first scoring drive of the game, coming in the second quarter, totaled 59 yards in nine plays. Bullock carried the ball six times for 42 yards on that drive.
* Bullock carried the ball on the first five plays of that drive. He ran for back-to-back gains of nine and 12 yards to start the drive. After a three-yard gain on the next play, Bullock toted the ball for 13 yards to the CMU 22.
* The drive culminated with a six-yard pass from Anthony Turner to Barnes with 7:58 remaining before halftime. For Barnes, it was his second receiving TD of the year.
* On Central's ensuing possession, freshman Jerett Sanderson forced an Ontario Sneed fumble, which was recovered by classmate Jahmal Brown. For both Sanderson and Brown, the statistic marked the first of their respective careers (first FF for Sanderson, first FR for Brown).
* On the ensuing drive, Turner completed a third-and-9 pass to Kenneth Brantley II for an 18-yard gain to the CMU 25-yard line. Later on that drive, on fourth-and-8, Turner found Barnes for a 19-yard pass to the Chippewas' four-yard line.
* On another fourth-down play on that drive -- this time fourth-and-goal from the one -- Barnes scored on a direct snap. A Sean Ellis PAT cut the Central lead to 17-14 with 1:33 remaining in the half.
* For Barnes, that TD, as mentioned, was his 11th of the year. It marked his ninth rushing score.
* In the second quarter, the Falcons held the ball for a total of 10:24, and had seven first downs while allowing the Chippewas just one.
* Officially, the Falcons were credited with two sacks in the game. On Central Michigan's first possession of the second half, Devon Parks tackled LeFevour behind the line twice in a three-play span. One of them, however, was credited as a tackle for loss, but not a sack. The one sack gives Parks a total of six this season and 19 in his career. His six sacks lead the Mid-American Conference, and his career total leads all active Falcons.
* Brantley caught a career-long 28-yard pass from Turner midway through the fourth quarter. The catch gave him a total of three receptions in the game, tying his career best in that category. Brantley's total of 66 receiving yards in the game set a career standard.
* Barnes caught swing passes from Turner on back-to-back plays early in the fourth quarter. For Barnes, the two grabs gave him a total of five on the night, a new career best, for a total of 43 yards.
* Corey Partridge also had five receptions, for a team-leading 63 yards. His total included a 40-yard grab in the fourth quarter.
* BGSU continues a three-game road swing with a trip to Philadelphia to play Temple on Saturday, Oct. 28.
