BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team posted their 16th consecutive win Friday night with a 3-0 sweep at Buffalo. Sophomore Kendra Halm was overpowering, racking up 16 kills with just one error on 18 attack attempts (.833). BGSU improves to 20-2 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
"The team feels great right now, the 20th win was a goal we set at the beginning of the year," said Head Coach Denise Van De Walle. "And now we just want to see how many more we can get."
Bowling Green's offense was running on all cylinders as they hit .444 for the match and served exceptionally well, compiling nine service aces.
"Tonight we were tough to beat, our serving may have been the best we've seen all season," said Van De Walle. "(Elizabeth) Simon from the service line tore it up with five aces."
Friday night's contest was dominated from start to finish by the Brown and Orange. In fact, Buffalo's latest lead the entire match was a 13-12 lead in the second game. The Falcons nearly doubled up the Bulls, outscoring them 90-48 in total points.
With the aforementioned 13-12 Falcon deficit in game two, Bowling Green tore off seven consecutive points to take a 19-13 leading. Junior Elizabeth Simon belted three service aces in that span.
Junior Stephanie Swiger joined Halm with double-digit kills, compiling 11 terminations at a .375 pace.
"Our middles were great, Swiger was strong as usual and hit the ball hard," said Van De Walle. "But tonight was the Kendra Halm Show, she hit a variety of shots and was unstoppable."
Junior Madeline Means posted an impressive stat line as well, contributing eight kills, a .438 hitting efficiency, seven digs and a service ace.
The Falcons pick up win number 20 on October 20th and look for their 21st win October 21 at Akron. Interestingly, Bowling Green extended their winning streak to 13 matches on Friday the 13th earlier this season.
Bowling Green and Akron are scheduled to begin at 3 PM.
