
Volleyball Starts a New Win Streak, Sweep Kent State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team got back to their winning ways with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Kent State Saturday afternoon. BGSU took a 30-18, 30-21, 30-23 decision in impressive fashion, hitting at a .310 pace. It was also Alumni Day at Anderson Arena, allowing for several former Falcon volleyball players to show up and root on the '06 Falcons.
Sophomore Kendra Halm paced the Falcons with 18 kills and a .424 hitting efficiency. Junior Stephanie Swiger chipped in with 12 kills and six eight blocks.
Defense was the name of the game Saturday afternoon as the Falcons held the Golden Flashes to a .080 hitting pace, including a dismal -.034 in game one. Swiger rejected four Kent State attacks in the first game alone as BGSU rolled to a 30-18 win.
Despite Kent State posting a match-high .204 in game two, the Falcons still captured a 30-21 victory. Swiger and Halm combined for 10 game-two kills, and Sophomore Chelsey Meek dug eight balls in the second stanza.
Game three was much the same for Bowling Green, ending in a 30-23 win. Halm dominated the third game, blasting eight kills. Senior Chrissy Gothke steered the offense with 16 assists in the game-three clincher.
BGSU improves to 22-3 overall and 11-1 in MAC play. The Brown and Orange next match is scheduld for Wednesday, Nov. 1, a road match at Miami.
