OXFORD, Ohio - Despite out-shooting the Miami RedHawks 34-23 on Saturday night the Bowling Green State University hockey team fell 3-0 inside Steve Cady Arena. Miami's Jeff Zatkoff added an assist to go along with his 34 saves for the shutout.
BGSU (2-3-1, 0-2-0) fired 11 shots to Miami's six in the first period, but the RedHawks' Ryan Jones got MU on the board first with a power-play goal at the 12:47 mark of the opening period.
The Orange and Brown once again out-shot Miami 14-11 in the second, but another MU power-play goal at the 3:40 mark extended the RedHawk lead to 2-0.
MU's Nathan Davis recorded the final goal of the contest at the 17:46 mark of the second period for the final 3-0 score.
The Falcons nearly put an end to the Zatkoff shutout as sophomore Brandon Svendsen rang the puck off the post as time expired in the third period.
The RedHawks converted on 2-of-4 power plays, while the Falcons were held scoreless on all four of their man-advantage opportunities.
Sophomore Jimmy Spratt recorded 20 saves in the loss.
Up next for the Falcons will be a pair of home contests with Lake Superior next weekend. Opening face-off for both games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
