Falcons Win Third Straight in Battle with Musketeers

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The tennis Falcons pulled through a grueling match with in-state rival Xavier University to take the 4-3 road victory. Despite going just one-for-three in doubles play, the Falcons saw four of the six singles matches reach the tiebreaking round. With the win, the Orange and Brown improved to 5-4 while delivering XU their second loss of the season. The Musketeers now sit at 4-2.
The combination Andrea Meister and Andrea Volle remain undefeated at the No. 3 doubles flight as they picked up their third win, 8-3. The "Andrea Duo" were lone doubles flight to edge the Musketeers.
The temperature rose on the bitter February afternoon as singles action got underway. The Falcons stole the match with wins at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 flights; three of which were won in the third set.
Jenna Nussbaum jump-started the Falcon victory with her three set win at the second flight. For the second week straight, senior Heidi Romer battled for a win and now has a 5-5 record at the No. 3 flight.
Freshmen Kelsey Jakupcin and Stefanie Menoff continued their impressive starts as Falcons and have lost just three singles matches between the two.
BGSU will end the weekend as the University of Chicago-Illinois visits Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center. The 3:00 match with the Falcons will be the second in a double header for UIC. The Flames are scheduled to take on Detroit for an early morning match before traveling to Toledo to take on BGSU.
