Falcons Extinguish Flames, 6-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After being down a point from three doubles losses, the Bowling Green State University (6-4) won each of their six singles matches to extend their current win streak to four. The 6-1 win over the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames (4-2) also continues the Falcons unbeaten streak at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center. The Orange and Brown are four-for-four at home this season.
The first and second doubles matches were decided by a total of three points. Ashley Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum posted a 8-6 loss while Heidi Romer and Kelsey Jakupcin were nearly defeated in their 8-7 loss.
The Falcons stole the fire from the UIC doubles victory to post a 6-0 sweep of the Flames in singles matches.
Ashley Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum easily won their flights at the first and second positions and after being pushed to the tie-breaking point to win the first set, Heidi Romer took control of the No. 3 singles defeating UIC's Corey Steven, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
In the remaining three matches, the Falcons did not allow their opponents to score more than four points in a given match.
Bowling Green will be given a chance to rest next weekend by hosting just one home match. IUPUI will travel to Shadow Valley to test the Falcons Friday night. The opening serve will be tossed at 6:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will have over a full week of rest before they face Duquesne in Orlando, Fla. on March 6.
