BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In what could be seen as the most relaxed weekend of the season, the Tennis Falcons (6-4) will host just one match, yet the relaxation will be deceptive. IUPUI (2-4) will visit Toledo's Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center as a first time opponent on Friday night.
"We are not familiar with their players names from Junior Tennis competition," said head coach Penny Dean. "But we are looking forward to the challenge of making it five wins in a row."
After a rocky start to the season, the Jaguars will enter the match with two straight wins, including a come from behind win at home to beat Southern Illinois, 5-2. The previous day, IUPUI posted a 6-1 victory over Morehead State.
The Morehead State match marked the first points scored by the Jags in their first five outings of the season.
The Orange and Brown have allowed opponents to net just four total points while riding a five match unbeaten run at Shadow Valley.
Freshman Kelsey Jakupcin and Stefanie Menoff continue to look like seasoned veterans and are continuously posting singles points for the Falcons at the No. 5 and No. 6 Singles positions. The two have a combined record of 14-3.
Captain Heidi Romer has shown the poise of a three-year letterman and is 2-1 when matches come to the tie-breaking round with her lone loss coming at the hands of the Michigan State Spartans. On the season, Romer is 6-5 at the No. 3 Singles flight.
In the match against the Salukis, IUPUI quickly claimed two of the three doubles matches, but will not have the same luxury with the Falcons. BGSU duo's have posted winning records at the second and third positions and have taken the doubles point four times this season. Three of the four points were earned at Shadow Valley.
The Falcons' night flight will begin with the first serve being thrown at 6:00 p.m.
