BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Looking to get her music classes in tune for the semester, Ms. Pamela Williams, Vocal Music Director at Perrysburg High School, hosted Brent Petkus, a BGSU Falcon Quest STAR Program Presenter, on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.
Brent, a sophomore majoring in Sport Management with a Communication Specialization and a minor in Journalism, is also a member of the BGSU Men's Soccer Team. He presented to two of Ms. Williams' classes. His first presentation, before a group of 65 students, was centered on the importance of teamwork and not giving up on goals, especially when times are tough.
About 25 students listened to Brent's second presentation, which encouraged students to consider getting involved with other activities in addition to sports, highlighting the benefits of such participation.
The Falcon Quest STAR Program is a speaker's bureau that allows student-athletes to interact with youth in group settings. This program provides a semi-formal opportunity for student-athletes to visit area schools and civic groups to speak about topics that are affecting today's young people.
Presentation topics can include, but are not limited to: saying no to drugs and alcohol, college student-athlete life, goal setting, peer pressure, and staying in school.
