YPSILANTI, Michigan - Bowling Green dug themselves in a hole early, falling behind 4-0 after the first inning. Back-to-back walks followed by a fielding error gave the Falcons a scoring opportunity in the top of the second. Junior Mike Barnard and Freshman Ryan Shay took advantage, cutting the deficit to two runs with an RBI apiece.
Eastern Michigan wasted little time getting those two runs back however, scoring two runs in the home-half of the inning. A Falcon pitching change did could not derail the EMU offense as they tacked on another run in the third to take a 7-2 lead.
A walk, along with singles by Junior Kurt Wells and Sophomore Andrew Foster narrowed the score to 7-3. Senior Jay Threet then drew one of his three walks on the day to load the bases. Unfortunately, with a full count and two outs the next Falcon batter grouned out to the first baseman to end the rally.
The Eagles also scored solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings to create the 9-3 final score.
Wells's bat was hot over the weekend, batting .364 with three RBI for the series.
The Brown and Orange head back to the state of Michigan for a game against the Wolverines of Michigan on Tuesday, March 28 at 3:00 PM in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
