BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As the rest of the university has the scheduled spring break week to relax, the tennis Falcons (7-4) will seize the opportunity to prepare for their remaining schedule that will take place in an unfamiliar setting, outdoors. To date, BGSU has played strictly under a roof.
"Our goal is to win all three matches and it is definitely achievable," said coach Penny Dean. "Another goal is to get used to playing outside."
The Falcons will face Grand Valley State and Mount Saint Mary's on Monday and will see the likes of Duquesne on Tuesday afternoon.
Grand Valley State enters the match ranked fourth in their respective region with a 1-1 record. The Lakers loss came at the hands of the IUPUI Jaguars, 5-2; BGSU beat the Jags 6-1 at home on February 24.
Dean wants to use the GVS match to throw a few kinks into the line-up and experiment in her combinations.
The evening match will pit the Falcons against a Mount Saint Mary's (0-1) team, which will have seen just three matches prior to BGSU. The Mount will match-up with Villanova and Findlay in Orlando before they take-on BGSU.
"We are excited to play a team we do not face all the time," said Dean of The Mount. "We will get a very different look at the team because our players have not faced theirs in Junior Tennis competitions."
BGSU might hold the upperhand in the Duquesne matches; this will be the first time this season the Dukes will play out of the Pittsburgh area. The Dukes are 2-2 with both losses coming at the hands of MAC opponents.
Dean is cautious to write-off the Dukes too quickly. Despite a loss to the University of Toledo they won each of the top three flights, 4-3.
Matches will be held on Monday and Tuesday and will be held in various locales in the Orlando area. The Falcons will take on GVS at noon and Mount St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tuesday match will begin at 11:30 a.m.
