BOWLING GREEEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team continued to shine inside Warren Steller Field Saturday afternoon, capturing a 5-4 win over Toledo.
Senior Tyler Wasserman sent an RBI-double to right-center field for the first run of the game. With the score, BGSU has now tallied at least one first-inning run in nine of ten home games this season, all Falcon wins.
The Falcons then struggled to get the bats going while Toledo took a 4-1 lead after four and a half innings. However, Freshman Ryan Shay re-ignited the Falcon lineup with a single in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Eric Lawson followed up the Shay hit with one of his own, a single to center field that drove home Bowling Green's second run.
The Brown and Orange continued the rally in the sixth, knotting the score at 4-4. A two-out, two RBI-double by Shay highlighted the inning.
Bowling Green roughed up the Rocket pitching staff in the seventh as well. With runners at first and second, Head Coach Danny Schmitz called for a hit and run. It proved to be a great move as the Falcons executed the play to perfection when Junior Kurt Wells sprinted home from second off a Wasserman single through the left side of the infield.
A trio of Falcon relievers stiffled Toledo's lineup and secured Bowling Green's 5-4 victory. Junior Tyler Johnson recorded the final out and earned his fourth save on the year.
BGSU looks for the sweep Sunday afternoon at 1 PM. With a three-game sweep over Western Michigan earlier this season, the Falcons are 5-0 in home MAC games.
