After finishing the regular season with a 14-9 overall record and compiling a 3-5 conference record, Bowling Green State University tennis earned a seventh seed in the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament. The Orange and Brown will take on No. 2 Buffalo at 2:00 p.m. Today's match will be held on the campus of Miami University in Oxford.
Regular season champion Western Michigan earned the No. 1 seed, while Buffalo, Miami, Toledo and Eastern Michigan round out the top five seeds. Ball State and Bowling Green were given six and seventh seeds, respectively. No. 8 Akron was upset by No. 9 NIU in yesterday's play-in match for the right to face Western.
The Bulls were awarded the two seed due to their win over Miami University in the regular season. Both programs tied for second after the regular season. Overall, UB finished the regular season with a 13-4 record while winning six-of-eight conference matches.
Bowling Green enters the match as one of just two teams to defeat the Bulls in conference play. Bowling Green defeated the Bulls 5-2 in late March at Toledo's Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center. Although the Bulls took the doubles point and the No. 2 flight, BGSU earned victories at the No.1 and No. 3-No. 6 positions.
After losing five straight, the Falcons experienced a momentum shift after shutting out NIU, 7-0, on Senior Day at Keefe Courts last weekend.
The winner of the match will face the winner of the 10:00 a.m. match between Ball State and Miami. Bowling Green previously fell to both competitors in 4-3 decisions.
