BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team extended their current winning streak to seven games with a 7-3 victory over Central Michigan in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. Junior Alan Brech (2-0) earned the win with 7.2 innings pitched, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. The Falcons improve to 16-11 overall and 5-2 in MAC with the win.
The Falcons scarred CMU starter Ty Dunham for four runs in the first inning. Senior Tyler Wasserman and Junior Josh Dietz both contributed two RBI-doubles to hand BGSU an early 4-0 lead. Junior Eric Lawson, who is batting .600 during the current winning streak, belted his second homerun in as many games in the second inning to extend the Falcon lead to five runs.
The Chippewas got on the board in the seventh with a solo homerun by Bryan Mitzel. However, Sophomore Andrew Foster followed suit in the ninth with a two-run homerun to left-center for BGSU. A wild pitch and throwing error by Bowling Green allowed CMU to score two unearned runs in the ninth, but 7-3 was as close as they would get.
A recap of the second game in the double dip will be available later this evening.
