BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Central Michigan Chippewas (16-14, 5-3 MAC) put a stop to Bowling Green's seven-game winning streak, downing the Falcons 6-3 in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader. Bowling Green is now 16-12 overall and one game behind Kent State in the MAC East standings at 5-3 in conference play.
The Brown and Orange scored first with three runs in the third. Freshman Kevin Leady opened the inning with a single to right field. Junior Eric Lawson followed the single up with an RBI-double for his 12th RBI on the year. With the help of a Chippewa throwing error, BGSU tacked on two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Falcon starter Greg Becker was just one out away from escaping a jam. Unfortunately, CMU recorded two hits that resulted in four two-out runs for the Chippewas.
Bowling Green threatened the Chippewas 4-3 advantage several times, including a bases-loaded opportunity, but could not muster a rally. Central Michigan added two more insurance runs to take a 6-3 win.
BGSU and the Chippewas will decide the series Sunday afternoon at 1 PM. Game three will be held Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
