BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team improved to 24-23 after banging out 13 runs on 16 hits in a victory over Wright State. Wednesday afternoon's Falcon win was the second in as many days after defeating Oakland, 10-2, on Tuesday.
Back-to-back four-run innings by the Falcons in the third and fourth highlighted the afteroon for Bowling Green. Junior Josh Stewart recorded a homerun, a triple and four RBI in his first two at-bats. Senior Tyler Wasserman and Junior Kurt Wells each picked up three hits while driving home two runs apiece in the contest.
Wright State jumped out to an early 3-1 by scoring a run in each of the first three innings. However, the Falcons took the lead for good after putting a four-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.
Bowling Green opened up the inning with a pair of singles. Two walks later and the Falcons found themselves trailing by a lone run. Hits by Wasserman and Sophomore Andrew Foster forced three more runs across home to give BGSU a 5-3 edge after three innings.
With two runners aboard in the fourth, Stewart laced a pitch to right-center field. The Dayton, Ohio shifted into high gear as he motored around the bases for a two-RBI triple. The Brown and Orange increased their lead to six runs in the inning.
The Raiders scrapped back into the game the following inning. WSU tallied three runs on three hits to make a 9-6 score. Bowling Green would not allow Wright State to get any closer, however, scoring two runs in the home-half of the inning along with two more in the sixth.
BGSU heads to Buffalo this weekend for a three-game MAC series. With six conference games remaining, the Falcons are 2.5 games back from Western Michigan for the sixth and final post-season slot in the MAC tournament. The Broncos will host Central Michigan over the weekend.
