Hrusovsky Named To Academic All-MAC Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Carley Hrusovsky was named to the Academic All-MAC Squad this afternoon according the league office. The sport management major led the Falcons with an 80.15 stroke average, while maintaining a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average.
This past season the North Canton, Ohio native finished with an 80.15 stroke average through 26 rounds of competition. She finished 21st at the MAC Championships, carding a 315 (87-73-80-75), while her 14 stroke improvement from round one to round two was a MAC Championship record. She finished seventh at both the Youngstown Invitational (73-83) and St. George Invitational (85-77), both Falcon victories. Lastly, she broke 80, 14-of-26 rounds this season and recorded a career-low 73 twice.
Team Note:
Though Hrusovsky was the lone Falcon to be named to the academic team all six members of the women's golf program carry at least a 3.25 GPA. Hrusovsky is tops with a 3.92 and is followed by Lindsay Jonkhoff, 3.83 (psychology), Amanda Schroeder, 3.47 (med-tech), Amanda Bader, 3.38 (communication disorders), Kari Liggett, 3.33 (early childhood studies) and Jessica McCann, 3.25 (education).

The Mid-American Conference announced its 2006 Women's Golf Academic All-MAC team Wednesday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of six student-athletes were named to the team. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
Kent State had two student-athletes honored on this year's team. Leading the 2006 MAC Champions was All-MAC First-Team selections Kira Meixner and Becky Wood. The Golden Flashes will make their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Central Regional when it opens play Thursday, May 11, at Texas A&M's Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. The 54-hole event played May 11-13, will qualify the top eight teams and two individuals for the NCAA Championships. The Golden Flashes are looking to make their third appearance in the NCAA finals and first since 2003.
Toledo's Natalie Storck was named to the team after also being named to the All-MAC Second-Team. She was joined by Ball State's Katie Sundberg and Western Michigan's Erin Thorne. This is the second consecutive year that both Sundberg and Thorne have been been recognized on the Academic All-MAC team. Bowling Green's Carley Hrusovsky rounded out this year's team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
