MIDLAND, Mich. - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Lindsay Heimrich (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Softball Team. Heimrich, a senior, was named to the second team, it was announced Thursday (May 11).
Heimrich is one of just two Mid-American Conference student-athletes on the District IV squad. She maintains a 3.70 cumulative grade point average as a marketing major.
Heimrich was named to the team for the third consecutive year, having earned first-team honors in 2004 before being named to the second team last season. The district team is made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status (meaning that Heimrich has made the team in every year in which she has been eligible for consideration), be a starter or important reserve on the team, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Heimrich currently has a batting average of .209, and hit .333 in MAC games this spring. She has played in 47 games to date, starting 45.
The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross, after Wednesday's (May 10) 4-0 win over Akron to begin MAC Tournament play, are scheduled to face Kent State sometime on Thursday. Starting time is currently set for 6:30 p.m., but that time could change depending upon the weather in the Midland, Mich., area.
