The Bowling Green State University women's golf team defended their YSU Invitational crown from last season after finishing this year's tournament (renamed the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational) with a team score of 626 (313-313). The Falcons lapped the field, finishing 10 strokes better then second-place Detroit, thanks in help to junior Jessica McCann's medalist finish (73-74).
Last season McCann finished in a tie for second at the same tournament, carding a 154 (77-77). McCann's 147 this season is her career-best and is the first Falcon medalist since Jenny Schnipke finished first at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in 2002.
Also of note, McCann's 147 was just two strokes shy of Schnipke's school record 145 for 36-holes.
Not to be outdone, juniors Lindsey Jonkhoff and Carley Hrusovsky finished fifth and sixth respectively. Jonkhoff fired a 156 (77-79), while Hrusovsky shot 158 (78-80).
Rounding out the Falcons roster were Amanda Bader and Kari Liggett. Bader carded a 166 (86-80, T-19th), while Liggett's 168 (85-83) placed her in 24th position. There were a total of 60 golfers in the field.
The Falcons earned a much-needed rest after playing in two tournaments the past four days and three tournaments since Sept. 4. They won't take to the course again until Oct. 6, when they travel to Richmond, Kent. for the EKU Colonel Classic.
