Falcons Dominate Net Play Against Chippewas

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons remain unscathed in Anderson Arena (9-0) after a 3-1 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas tonight (30-20, 31-33, 30-16, 30-16). The Falcons' front court put up big numbers for the fourth match in a row in Anderson Arena. The Falcons recorded a .338 hitting percentage with three players in double digits for kills. The Falcons also owned the net on defense putting up 16 blocks keeping the Chippewas to a mere .065.
The Falcons jumped out scoring the first point of the match once again off of a kill from Corey Domek. The Falcons took an early, 7-1 lead after a six point run started by a kill from Kaitlin Jackson. The Falcons continued to push ahead extending their lead 13-5 but the Chippewas answered back with a five point run bringing them within three, 13-10. The Falcons took their biggest lead in game one, 27-17, after a three point Falcon run. The Falcons finished off game one 30-20.
Game two was the only game to slip away from the Orange and Brown. The Falcons continued to be the first to strike grabbing the first point of the game two. The Falcons stayed aggressive putting together a four point run, which included three double-blocks by the Falcons two from Kendra Halm and Jackson and one from Halm and Megan Mohr. With the score 10-9 in favor of the Falcons, the Chippewas got on a four point run to take a 13-10 lead. The Falcons came storming back with an eight point run, which included one of the two triple blocks of the night. The rest of game two was neck in neck with neither team taking more than a three point lead. With the score 28-26 the Falcons took game point off of a kill from Jackson, 29-26. The Chippewas put together a four point run to fight off two Falcon game points, tied the game up 29-29 and then took a 30-29 lead over the Falcons. BGSU tied the game up 30-30 from a Stephanie Swiger kill. With the score tied up 31-31 the Chippewas scored the last two points to win, 33-31.
After game two slipping away from the Falcons they came out of the locker room fired up. The Falcons took an early 8-1 lead after an eight point Falcon run, which included the second of the two Falcons' triple blocks of the night. The Chippewas tried to keep game three just as close as game two but the Falcons stayed on the attack mounting three consecutive Falcon runs and taking a 22-9 lead. The first was a four point run with Maggie Karges at the service line followed by a five point run with Chelsey Meek at the service line. Rounding up the Falcon attack was a four point run with Mohr at the service line who recorded two service aces during the run. The Chippewas tried to come back but were only able to come within nine of the Falcons the rest of game three. The Falcons extended their lead to 14 point, 29-15 after another five point Falcon run. Domek ended game three for the Falcons with a kill from Shari Luther giving the Falcons a 30-16 win. The Falcons dominated the net in game three hitting their best of the match .483 with 3.5 blocks compared to the Chippewas' .033 hitting percentage and no blocks.
The beginning of game four went back and forth until the Falcons strung together a nine point run with Sam Fish at the serving line, which gave the Falcons a 19-11 lead. The Falcons put together a three point run with back to back double blocks from Swiger and Mohr. The Falcons finished off game four with a four point run with Alex Zlabis at the serving line, who recorded her fourth career service ace to give the Falcons a 30-16 victory over the Chippewas. The Falcons held the Chippewas to their lowest hitting percentage of the night in game four -.097 while BGSU hit a .333 and put up four blocks.
The Falcons were led by Mohr and Domek with 16 kills a piece. Mohr hit a .583 with 16 kills and only two errors in 24 attempts. Domek hit a .355 with 16 kills with five errors in 31 attempts. Also putting up big numbers on offense for the Falcons were Swiger with 11 kills hitting a .357, Halm with eight kills hitting a .316, and Fish with five kills and no errors hitting a .417. Leading the way on defense for the Falcons was Meek in the back court with 14 digs and at the net Halm tying her career high 12 blocks and Mohr with a career high eight blocks.
The Falcons will finish up their five match home stand and defend their undefeated home court tomorrow (Oct. 13) afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Eastern Michigan.
