Recap | Final Stats | Notes
BGSU Head Coach Gregg Brandon
Was it your plan to run the ball as much as you did?
"Not necessarily, we just had some success with it. We were blocking them and Willie Geter was finding some creases today. We ran the ball well. The players are in the locker room saying the rushing game is back."
What does it say about your team when you play the way you do at Miami, and bounce back like this?
"It says volumes. We challenged this week in practice and they responded. It is all about the preparation of this football team. Guys are dinged up and everybody is playing with their second team guys. It is about mental preparation. That is what we challenged them to do."
Do you feel you did a good job containing Eugene Jarvis?
"We knew we were not going to stop him. We just needed to tackle and for the most part we did that. I have watched him play seven games and a lot of teams don't even two hand touch tackle him. For us to contain him was a victory for our defense."
Can you talk about the stops in the red-zone?
"It was huge. Our defense really rallied. We played without three of our four starting defensive lineman. Mike Ward did a great job preparing the defense and defensive lineman. D.J. Young and Nick Torresso really stepped up today."
Can you talk about the trick plays your ran?
"All the guys wanted to do the onside kick. We have had that planned ever since camp. You have to take some chances in games like this on the road. Those were all well designed plays. The throwback to Turner was a great play. Mick McCall did a great job with the timing of those plays.
Can you talk more about the way Geter played?
"Willie Geter is going to be a great player before he is through. He is a tough little runner. He brings his `A' game every day to practice and has a great work ethic. Sometimes I look at him and forget he is a freshman. He is an outstanding you player and a great kid too."
BGSU linebacker John Haneline
How do you explain the bounce back after last week?
"Coach Ward switched practice up a bit on us on Thursday. He put together a bunch of clips from our first four games, when we were playing good football. He challenged us to have that team show up and play with that intensity. That hit home with a lot of us. We just wanted to make a stand and get the ball back to the offense."
Can you talk about the defensive stops in the red-zone?
"It seemed like when we would get in the red-zone we would have that bend but don't break mentality. It seemed once we stopped them once it fired us up to do it again."
BGSU running back Willie Geter
How do you explain this break-out game?
"During the week the coaches told the lineman and me that we were going to run the ball this week. The offensive line did a great job of blocking and I just followed the holes."
How much does it help the offense with a good running game?
"This gives us a two-way go. They can't sit back. These past couple games they have been dropping eight and nine guys and just rushing two. I just need to do my job to help this team."
