Quoting Head Coach Fred Thompson
On Detroit Mercy:
"Games against Detroit are always intense and our close proximity to their campus gives us almost a strange rivalry of sorts with their program. Plus college soccer teams have a very long memory. Last year we had a great outing in Michigan which resulted in a favorable result for our team; I am well aware they have not forgotten that game and will be looking forward to have the chance to maybe get one back.
"Detroit is a very good team who came in and won our tournament early in the season. I had the chance to watch them and they are a solid team who has the benefit of height, great serving and they play well in their set pieces.
"At the moment, they have hit a hard spell and are being challenged to get results in their league. We have to be aware of these circumstances and can not allow ourselves to be the team they gain it back against."
On Western Michigan:
"This game is absolutely HUGE for [MAC] play-off implications. We can't look at this game in a vacuum, but if we pull out a pair of wins we will put ourselves in a better position to have a play-off game at home. Before we can win two in a row though, we much win one.
"I am sure Western Michigan is looking at the same thing and thinking the same way as we are. Typically, games with Western have come down to a goal. While I look for this game to be no different I am pulling for that goal to be in our favor.
"With this much at stake we need to be the team that will come out playing our best soccer. I feel the team that will leave the field satisfied with the game will be the one who plays committed, determined, organized soccer. Also the winning team will need to not only stick to their game plan but will some how need to stay relaxed and confident no matter what is thrown at them during the game."
