BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Each week, Bowling Green State University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher answers a few of the many questions that have been submitted to BGSUFalcons.com. Here is the latest installment ...
Q: Has there been talk of the CCHA either expanding to add more teams with a better geographic for this region or adding more teams in general?
Jason in Huron
A: As a relative newcomer, I don't know about past conversations, but at our annual meetings in April, potential expansion of the CCHA was discussed. While no specific plan was outlined, everyone recognized that the hockey landscape was changing. As a first step, the CCHA is developing a set of criteria for institutions that might have a future interest in our conference. In the past, the CCHA has been supportive of expansion with the idea that it aids the long-term health of Division I ice hockey. Given Wayne State's unfortunate decision to drop hockey, it's likely there may be some shifting of conferences in the coming years. How that impacts the CCHA is unknown, but our conference will be prepared for a variety of options and directions.
