BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Ryan Squire has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance & Certification at Bowling Green State University. Squire, who comes to BGSU from the University of Illinois, will begin his duties on Nov. 5.
Squire, a native of Sylvania, Ohio, will replace Sid Sink, who is retiring at the end of the 2007 calendar year.
"We are pleased to announce the addition of Ryan Squire to the department of athletics," said BGSU Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Greg Christopher. "He brings a strong compliance background to the position, and will be a great addition to our senior staff.
"We are also pleased that he will have the opportunity to work with Sid Sink for nearly two months, helping to ensure a smooth transition."
Squire returns to Northwest Ohio after more than five years as the Compliance Coordinator for the U of I. In that position, he serves as the University's sole contact for all interpretation of NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules, and is responsible for developing and conducting a rules education program that covers all Illini student-athletes as well as staff, boosters and fans.
"As a Northwest Ohio native, I am thrilled to be coming back home to join the BGSU family," said Squire. "I am truly grateful to Greg Christopher for giving me this opportunity.
"During my visit to campus and our subsequent conversations he really impressed me with his vision for Falcon athletics. This program is headed for great things and I can not wait to get to BG to be a part of it."
Prior to heading to Illinois, Squire worked for over three years in the athletics department at the University of Cincinnati. He began as a legal intern, and was promoted to Associate Director of Compliance and Student Services within just a few years of service. For most of his tenure with the Bearcats, Squire was responsible for running all of the day-to-day compliance operations for the department of athletics, which sponsored 18 sports for approximately 400 student-athletes.
Squire received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ohio State in 1995, and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Cincinnati College of Law in 1999.
